DPF warning light on?
Stuck in limp mode, or the light won’t go out? We find out why your diesel particulate filter is blocking and fix the cause, at your home or work.

A diesel particulate filter (DPF) traps the soot from a diesel engine and burns it off on longer runs. When it can’t, it blocks, the warning light comes on and the car can drop into limp mode.
We read the DPF data with dealer-level Autel and Snap-On diagnostics, find out why the filter is not cleaning itself, and fix the cause, whether that is a faulty sensor, a sticking EGR valve or something else. You get a clear quote before any work starts.
Signs of a DPF problem
- DPF warning light
- Engine management light
- Limp mode or loss of power
- Rough or lumpy idle
- More smoke than usual
- Worse fuel economy
- Frequent regenerations
Why DPFs block
Short journeys
The filter needs regular longer runs to burn off the soot it collects.
Faulty sensors
A bad pressure or temperature sensor can stop the filter cleaning itself.
EGR faults
A sticking EGR valve upsets combustion and adds to the soot.
Injector problems
Poor injection means more soot for the filter to trap.
Don’t ignore a DPF light
Carrying on with a blocked filter can turn a sensor or valve fix into a much bigger bill. If the light won’t clear, call us on 07989 747065 and we will come and find out why.
DPF questions
All questionsHow much does a typical repair cost?
Without the overheads of a fixed garage, our labour rates are usually lower than main dealers and many local workshops. Prices depend on the job, the make and the parts needed, but you always get a clear quote before any work starts, and servicing is fixed-price. There are no hidden call-out fees within our normal area, and we will tell you if a repair would not be worth it compared with what the car is worth.
Can I keep driving with the DPF light on?
A DPF light often means the filter needs a longer run at a steady speed so it can clean itself, and your handbook will say what your car needs. If the light stays on, starts flashing, or the car goes into limp mode, get it checked, because a badly blocked filter costs far more to put right.
Why do DPFs get blocked?
The filter needs regular longer runs to burn off the soot it collects, so cars used mostly for short trips are the usual victims. Faulty sensors, a sticking EGR valve and injector problems can also stop it cleaning itself. We find the cause, so the problem does not just come back.
