Airbag warning light on?
It means the airbags may not go off in a crash. We find the fault and fix it wherever your car is parked, at home or at work.
The airbag light, sometimes marked SRS, comes on for a few seconds when you start the car and should then go out. If it stays on, the system has logged a fault and part or all of it may be switched off.
The car still drives normally, which makes it easy to ignore, but in a crash the airbags and seatbelt pretensioners may not go off. It is an MOT fail too. We read the airbag module with dealer-level Autel and Snap-On diagnostics, find the fault and fix it where the car is parked.
What usually causes it
Airbag faults are more often a connection than an airbag. The usual suspects:
- Seat connectors knocked loose under the front seats
- A worn clock spring behind the steering wheel
- Seatbelt buckle or pretensioner faults
- Passenger seat sensor faults
- Damaged wiring or connectors
- Low voltage after a flat battery
- Crash sensor or module faults
How we fix it
Read the module
Dealer-level diagnostics show which airbag circuit has logged the fault.
Trace the circuit
Connectors, the clock spring, buckles and wiring checked, following the safety procedure for your car.
Repair the cause
You get a quote first, then we fix what has actually failed.
Clear and confirm
We clear the code and check the light goes out and stays out.
Why clearing the light is not a fix
Some people just have the light cleared. If the fault is still there, the light comes back, often within a few journeys, and the airbags still may not work in the meantime. We find and fix the cause first, then clear the code.
Leave the airbag wiring to us
Airbag parts can go off if they are handled wrongly, so please don’t unplug the connectors under the seats or probe the wiring yourself. MOT due? Get the light sorted first with our pre-MOT checks.
Airbag questions
All questionsHow much does a typical repair cost?
Without the overheads of a fixed garage, our labour rates are usually lower than main dealers and many local workshops. Prices depend on the job, the make and the parts needed, but you always get a clear quote before any work starts, and servicing is fixed-price. There are no hidden call-out fees within our normal area, and we will tell you if a repair would not be worth it compared with what the car is worth.
Can I drive with the airbag light on?
The car will drive normally, but the airbags and seatbelt pretensioners may not go off in a crash. Treat it as urgent and get it checked as soon as you can.
Does the airbag light fail the MOT?
Yes. An airbag or SRS warning light that stays on is a major defect, so the car will fail its MOT until the fault is fixed.
